KidWind Challenge
KidWind Fellow | 2024 – Present
Student Competitor | 2018 – 2022
KidWind is an international STEM education organization that inspires students to explore renewable energy through hands on engineering design competitions. Students design, build, and optimize wind turbines while applying principles of aerodynamics, mechanical design, and data driven testing. Through competitions, educational programs, and teacher resources, KidWind introduces thousands of students to engineering each year.
I first competed in the KidWind Challenge in eighth grade, designing and building a small-scale wind turbine that won my first competition. After that experience, I helped establish a KidWind team at my high school and continued refining our turbines through repeated design, testing, and competition. Over the following years, our team consistently performed at the highest level and earned multiple KidWind World Championships.
KidWind invited me back as a Fellow to help support the students and educators participating in the program. Drawing from my experience as a former competitor, I provide teams with practical guidance on turbine design, testing strategies, competition preparation, and the engineering decisions behind successful systems.
My work as a Fellow has also included traveling to the World KidWind Challenge to assist teams and developing educational content that breaks down technical topics such as blade design, generators, gearing and testing. The role has given me the opportunity to return to a program that was an important catalyst in my engineering development and help new teams build the confidence, technical understanding, and problem-solving skills needed to succeed.
